YJB Films co produced the new Visit Wales commercial with Rogue Films. The Visit Wales advertising campaign, launched on St David’s Day 2014 was directed by Marc Evans, who is also putting the finishing touches to the feature documentary, Jack to a King. The BAFTA award winner said: “Visit Wales were keen to use a Welsh production company and I was really happy to work with my friends at YJB. “They co produced the film with Rogue Films in London and brought a lot of local knowledge to the table as well as providing a home for the production team. Being based in Swansea gave us terrific access to West Wales and we made a real effort to involve young local crew in the shoot."
“It was a great experience and we are all very proud of the finished ad which, as you can imagine, involved a lot of travelling and weather dodging. It was a truly Welsh endeavour.”
The commercial, Have you packed for Wales? reminds visitors to pack an open mind, a sense of adventure and an appetite for discovery. It features the new BikePark Wales, Cadw monuments - Caernarfon Castle and St Davids Bishop’s Palace, Abersoch Beach, dolphins in Cardigan Bay and Carreg y Defaid beach near Llanbedrog. The accompanying soundtrack ‘Mil Harddach’, is a traditional Welsh song performed in a contemporary style by Cerys Matthews.
YJB director Mal Pope added: “We were honoured to be able to bring together some of the finest film making talent in Wales to produce this stunning commercial that shows what Wales has to offer at its best.”
